Thank you to the 800,000 people who read my last post exposing the Six Sigma fraud. I am responding to the 1158 comments.
I know the answer but I keep asking myself, how on Earth could so many people turn their backs on the giants of Quality, Professor Deming and Dr Wheeler, for the lunacy of a self-confessed con man? Make no mistake. Six Sigma's creator himself stated: "Some claim that Six Sigma is nothing more than smoke and mirrors - a sales job for senior management and a snow job for the rest. Well, they couldn't be more on target."
The answer is the Asch Effect, named after Solomon Asch's experiments in conformity. People are sheep. People don't think. They don't investigate. If people did the most basic due diligence, scams like Six Sigma would not exist.
COST CUTTING.Six Sigma's creator promised cost savings of $1,400,000 per gullible head annually, from his magic. Bean counters bought his bullshido. Thousands of Six Sigma con men continue to claim cost cutting from Six Sigma ... including at Boeing!
In reality, despite forking out $8 billion for Harry's fraud, one of the first cabs off the rank, GE, had a direct LOSS of $23 billion. Boeing lost $80B. Ford continues to hemorrhage.
Any company that bases their direction on fraud has inevitable consequences.
THE MAGICSix Sigma's creator was a great rug salesman. He knew nothing about Quality and his supposed PhD was from Mary Lou Teachers' College. He painted a picture of Six Sigma as a magical secret. You could only buy into the club's secrets at an outrageous price. Harry expounded his magic in his "The Mysteries of Six Sigma". It culminated in the mythical "pillar" ... the six sigma of Six Sigma ... based on the height of a stack of discs.
Harry was smart enough to know that almost no one would spend the hours to wade through the 138 pages of his intentionally obfuscated trash.
REDUCING VARIATIONThe impact of Harry's "pillar" has been that true believers EXPECT to see his 1.5 sigma shift in their processes. Ford is blissfully unaware that their processes are wildly out of control. They are unpredictable and incapable of good quality.
Harry spoke nothing of "reducing variation". He did not discuss control charts, at the heart of quality. Instead, he threw in statistics 101 to pad out his training. Such enumerative statistics are irrelevant to process improvement.
Other Six Sigma con men have tacked on control charts ... and made a complete mess of them. https://lnkd.in/gtdUvXyi
MANAGEMENTIt is essential that management has a good working knowledge of Quality. Not magic bullets, but Quality as built by Dr Shewhart, Professor Deming and Dr Wheeler. Deming spent much time trying to educate management in the fundamentals of quality.
Quality is easy but it takes work. Quality is not expensive ... much to the chagrin of con men selling magic bullets. They want to milk the gullible as they did with Six Sigma.
