Our 7th article in the series showed how a manager increased productivity by 15% and reduced variation 56% by stopping tampering. The Deming Funnel in Interactive Augmented Reality app teaches how to recognize and avoid tampering.
The video shows Mode 2 tampering, similar to that causing the 15% productivity loss. The process is IN CONTROL, making tampering hard for managers to detect.
The destructive Six Sigma Scam started because of Mr Bill Smith's failure to understand tampering. Hundreds of thousands of people blindly drank the Six Sigma Snake Oil because they failed to understand tampering and the basics of variation.
Mr Smith's employer Motorola, failed to understand tampering. They failed to use Process Behavior Charts (control charts). They were unable to differentiate between common and assignable causes (special causes).
Smith's buddy, Harry and his Six Sigma Scam, failed to teach an understanding of variation. Disaster was built in. No wonder Ford had an average of 1 in 5 defective AFTER "improvement" across hundreds of "successful" projects.
Subsequent "quality" fads continue to fail to teach an understanding of variation and tampering.
